Frequently asked questions

The bot token is right but no message arrives — why?
A Telegram bot can't start a conversation: the target user or group must message the bot (or add it) at least once so it has permission to post. Send any message to the bot, then re-run the PingInsight test alert.
How do I find the chat id for a group?
Add your bot to the group, send a message, then query the bot's getUpdates endpoint to read the numeric chat id (group ids are negative). Paste that id into the Telegram channel under Alerting alongside the bot token.
Can multiple people receive the same Telegram alerts?
Yes — point the channel at a group chat and everyone in it sees each alert, which is ideal for on-call hand-offs. For separate audiences, add one Telegram channel per chat id and attach each to the monitors or escalation steps it should cover.
