ntfy push notifications for every alert
PingInsight publishes confirmed outages and recoveries to an ntfy topic, so alerts hit your phone and desktop instantly with no account to manage. Use the public ntfy.sh service or point it at your own self-hosted ntfy server — alerts carry a priority and tags so down notices stand out from recoveries on the lock screen. It's the lightest-weight channel here, ideal for solo operators and homelabs.

A sample ntfy alert
!PingInsight→ ntfynow
ntfy topic: my-uptime-alerts 🔴 api.example.com is DOWN (priority: high) HTTP 503 · confirmed by 2 of 3 regions · 14:03:07 UTC tags: rotating_light, http (recovery push: 🟢 back up after 6m 21s)
Exact formatting varies by ntfy; the live alert includes the monitor, confirming regions, and the precise downtime on recovery.
Frequently asked questions
- Anyone can publish to a public ntfy topic — is that a risk?
- On ntfy.sh, topic names are effectively the only secret, so choose a long, unguessable topic to avoid spoofed pushes. For stronger control, self-host ntfy with access tokens and point PingInsight at your own server URL when adding the channel.
- I subscribed but no push arrives — what's wrong?
- Make sure the topic name in your ntfy app exactly matches the channel (topics are case-sensitive), and that your device allows ntfy notifications. If you self-host, confirm the server URL is reachable from the public internet so PingInsight can publish to it.
- Can I tell outage and recovery pushes apart at a glance?
- Yes. PingInsight sends down alerts at a higher priority with an alert tag and recoveries at normal priority, so they look distinct on the lock screen. You can further filter or route by topic if you want outages and recoveries in different places.
