Mattermost alerts for outages and recovery

Add a Mattermost incoming webhook and PingInsight posts every confirmed outage and recovery to your channel with a colored attachment and the exact downtime — ideal for teams self-hosting their chat. Because Mattermost usually runs on your own infrastructure, the one thing to get right is reachability: the webhook URL must be accessible from PingInsight's probes, so a server behind a private VPN or strict firewall needs an allowlist or public ingress for delivery to work.

Frequently asked questions

PingInsight can't reach my self-hosted Mattermost — what now?
The incoming webhook URL must be reachable from the public internet. If Mattermost sits behind a VPN or firewall, expose the webhook endpoint through a reverse proxy or allowlist PingInsight's egress so alerts can be delivered. A purely internal URL will silently fail.
Incoming webhooks aren't available in my Mattermost — why?
A system admin must enable incoming webhooks in the System Console (Integrations settings) before they can be created. Some hardened deployments also restrict which channels accept webhook posts, so confirm both before pasting the URL under Alerting.
Can I override the channel, username, or icon on alerts?
Mattermost lets incoming webhooks override the display name and target channel if the admin allows it. PingInsight posts with sensible defaults; if you need a specific channel or label, configure it on the Mattermost webhook itself rather than in PingInsight.
